Summer is a very active time for most of us, and vacations and plans are usually made well in advance. We will work hard and strive to fulfill them. However, most of the excitement of our Summer getaways is in the preparation and anticipation, and dreaming about them. Usually, after a period of weeks of being there, we are ready to return home. There is nothing like home…
In our Christian daily walk with the Lord, we either plan to spend time with God or we don’t. We either anticipate being in His presence in prayer and on the Lord’s Day in worship, or we don’t. We either look forward to every day with Jesus and each week in worship or we let it go by without much notice. Do we follow Jesus as much as we do our own plans for fun and entertainment?
Spending time with Jesus is like being on vacation from the world yet being home with Him all at the same time. It is the best relief we can experience from weariness, boredom, and hopelessness. Planning to be with Jesus every day can be exciting and fresh, and new. But being with Jesus is actually better than all the anticipation and dreams we could ever have.
Let’s spend some time on vacation this Summer, but let’s plan to spend more time with Jesus!
