Pastor Earl Bland’s Message for January 2024

If you were like me near the new year, I ate black-eyed peas, greens, and cornbread for dinner. We are told it is supposed to bring good luck and a prosperous year. But even though I ate that meal, I know in my heart it is merely superstition, and the real promise I should rely upon is God’s Word.

God has a new beginning for us all, and it is found in Jeremiah 29:11, “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” That is my prayer for Charleston Presbyterian Church as well as my own family. I look forward to the blessings of a new year with my loving church family and the season of Lent, which will begin on Ash Wednesday, February 14.

Maybe some of you remember that Jeremiah 29:11 was the exact Scripture we believed and took as God’s promise to us as we began our new church plant on December 7, 2014! Happy New Year!

In Christ’s Service,

Dr. Earl A. Bland
