Better Than I Deserve

If you’ve ever listened to the Christian Financial Counselor Dave Ramsey on the radio or social media, you’re aware that whenever a caller asks him, ‘how are you doing,’ his response is always, ‘better than I deserve.’ For the follower of Jesus, ‘better than I deserve’ is a pretty good motto for life. No matter what we face, we know that we’ve got God’s unconditional and unwarranted love, and that means at the end of the day, we are indeed, ‘better than we deserve.’

In his Letter to the Romans, Paul gives us many ‘better than we deserve’

words. For instance, Romans 5:8: But God demonstrates his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us. The word ‘sinners’ in this verse can be interpreted as: while we were missing the goals God had for our lives; while we were rebelling against God; while we were living as enemies of God. In other words, while we were doing everything to separate ourselves from God, God gave us better than we deserved. It’s incredible to think that the God who created the universe loves us so much that He sends Christ to die for us, even while we are doing everything to push Creator God away – That’s “better than we deserve.”

So, if you’re a follower of Jesus, no matter the challenges life might be throwing at you right now, God has extended His grace to you and at the end of the day, you will be, better than you deserve. God’s goal for us is eternal. In this life, we only see a split second of His goal – But at the end of the journey, you can rest assured that you will be ‘better than you deserve.”

Keep Shining!

Dave Mayo

West Ashley YoungLife

Their Mission:
Introducing adolescents to Jesus Christ and helping them grow in their faith.
Working with the local church is important to Young Life:
Although congregations can minister in ways we can’t, Young Life has inroads in communities with kids who are disinterested in church. However, as Young Life staff and leaders care for these kids, we try to help them become lifelong followers of Jesus Christ who will one day be active in the life of a local church.
